Arts Award Centre

balletLORENT is an Arts Award Centre and Arts Award Supporter organisation - we are able to offer all levels of Arts Award to individuals, community groups and schools, from the entry level Discover to Gold. We are also a keen supporter of the Artsmark Award, which can help unlock the potential of children and young people, help to develop character and talent, and increase their knowledge and understanding. Artsmark enables schools to celebrate their strengths and help achieve ambitions for the future, as well as enriching their curriculum with the arts. Our extensive creative learning programmes explore the ideas and processes behind Liv Lorent's choreography. Programmes can involve workshops, residencies, lecture demonstrations, and partnerships with dance educators in order to inspire participants in their own development.

Arts Award 'Discover in a Day'

balletLORENT is delighted to be offering schools in Newcastle upon Tyne the opportunity to take part in our Arts Award ‘Discover in a Day’ project. Our experienced dance educators will come to your school and deliver the project to up to 30 children in a day. The day will include dance, creativity and fun. Children will be given a log book to record their activities throughout the day. At the end of the project children can be awarded a Discover Certificate for their hard work. Resources, including background information about the work of balletLORENT and videos will be sent to schools in advance of the project to prepare children for our visit.

This project is aimed towards Key Stage 2 pupils. Available dates: Jan / Feb / Mar 2017.

For more information and to book ‘Discover in a Day in your school, please contact James MacGillivray, Education and Projects Manager at james@balletlorent.com or telephone 0191 233 1811 for more information.

Content of 'Discover in a Day'

The day will be divided into three parts to cover the specific areas of the award: Part 1: Discover: Children will be introduced to dance through a gentle warm-up and creative dance session in which they will be given the tools to create a short dance in small groups. Part 2: Find Out: We will introduce the work of balletLORENT, with video profiles of Artistic Director, Liv Lorent and some of the dancers. Children will then spend time working through our resource pack to research different artists. Part 3: Share: We develop the dances created earlier in the day and put together a sharing and presentation of the work the children have done throughout the day. Throughout the day our Arts Award Advisor will support the children in completing their Arts Award Discover Log Book. Children will be encouraged to write or draw about their experiences, and images of the workshop will be added as the day goes on. We will also document parts of the activity on film.

About Arts Award Discover

Arts Award Discover is the introductory award open to children and young people aged up to 25. To achieve Discover, children and young people discover the arts around them, find out about artists and their work and share their experiences with others, gaining a certificate at the end.

This award provides a great introduction to the arts and to other Arts Award levels.
