Creative Studio Shares a Year of Creativity with Funders

Wednesday July 1st 2026Share page

We were delighted that Creative Studio was one of five groups invited to showcase work at the Newcastle Youth Fund Celebration Event last week at Gosforth Civic Theatre.

The event celebrated the achievements of projects across Newcastle supported by Newcastle Youth Fund grants in 2025–26, recognising the impact of youth-led creative work across the city.

Cameron, Liam and Will introduced Creative Studio on behalf of the group, before sharing a short film created by Cameron. The film brought together highlights from across the year, showcasing the ideas, projects and creative development of our young artists.

Watch the film created by Cameron to see highlights from Creative Studio's year, celebrating the ideas, projects and creative journeys of our young artists.

Creative Studio is balletLORENT’s senior Youth Academy group, established in 2024 for young people aged 13–19. The programme supports participants to develop their skills and creative voices across dance, film, music production, costume and set design.

Working weekly with balletLORENT’s Artistic Director, Creative Team and guest artists, members respond to creative briefs and develop their own projects throughout the term. Each year includes opportunities for workshops, intensives, collaborations and showcase events.

Over the past year, Creative Studio members have taken part in a wide range of projects, including performing in balletLORENT’s professional production Best Worst Dances, creating films, music, costumes and games for studio showcases, and working with visiting artists such as The Suggestibles, Trish Mayes and Rupert Philbrick. The group also explored nature-inspired creativity during a Summer Intensive with Northumberland Wildlife Trust.

Alongside these projects, Creative Studio has also hosted workshops and collaborations including circus and DJ sessions, and worked with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra to create and perform a warm-up act for jazz artist Theon Cross at Cobalt Studios.

The programme continues to support young people to develop confidence, independence and creative skills, with many now progressing into further study and training in the arts. We are especially proud that Cameron is going on to study Set Design at Northern School of Art this autumn, with other members forming bands or continuing into creative education and emerging professional pathways.

We are extremely grateful to Newcastle Youth Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund for funding Creative Studio over the past two years, and to the Youth Panel, Jo and Mark for their continued support.

Creative Studio continues to provide a space where young people can explore ideas, develop their practice and build lasting friendships through creativity, and we look forward to the next stage of the programme.
