We are pleased to announce that BAFTA Award-winning actor Gina McKee will narrate Hansel & Gretel and the Witch, a new retelling of the classic fairy tale by former Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy.
Born in Peterlee and raised in Easington and Sunderland, Gina brings a strong North East connection to the production. Her work spans theatre, film and television, with credits including Our Friends in the North, The Forsyte Saga, The Street, Notting Hill, Phantom Thread and My Policeman. She has also received three Laurence Olivier Award nominations for her stage work, most recently for Dear England (2024) and The Years (2025).
The narration was recorded in London last week, with Ben Crompton serving as dramaturg for the recording.
Gina's narration will form an integral part of Hansel & Gretel and the Witch, helping to guide audiences through this new retelling of the familiar story.
Her involvement marks an exciting addition to the creative team, bringing one of the North East's most respected voices to the production.
