This autumn, we’re proud to premiere our brand-new production, Hansel & Gretel and the Witch, at Northern Stage — right here in Newcastle upon Tyne.
As a Newcastle-based company, it matters to us to share our work first with our home audiences. We’re inviting families and local audiences to be among the first to experience this premiere in the city this October half term. Treat your family or grandchildren to a night (or afternoon) of theatrical magic, as we return with a bold and imaginative retelling of the classic fairytale.
Following the success of our acclaimed fairytale trilogy — Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, and Snow White — this new production continues our signature blend of storytelling, dance, and striking visual theatre.
Created especially for us by former Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, the story is filled with wit, warmth, and dark fairytale magic, reimagining the well-known tale for a new audience.
The production features nine professional dancers alongside a young community cast, bringing energy, imagination, and a real sense of wonder to the stage.
Once again, we reunite with our celebrated creative team, including composer Murray Gold, set designer Mayou Trikerioti (new to the company), lighting designer Malcolm Rippeth, and costume designer Nasir Mazhar, who return with bold new designs for this latest work.
