Liv Lorent has been selected as one of this year’s four Making Moves choreographers, contributing to the creation of the digital choreographic toolkits that sit at the heart of the project.

Last week, Liv travelled to London with Gavin and Toby to take part in filming at Sadler’s Wells, capturing and developing new material for this year’s programme.

Making Moves is a national choreography and performance project for schools and youth groups across England, led by Sadler’s Wells and supported by Barclays. The programme connects young dancers and teachers with professional choreographers, giving them access to creative processes, workshops, and performance opportunities throughout the school year.

Each year, more than 50 schools and youth dance groups take part. Participants are aged 11–18, with provision extended up to 24 years for Deaf or disabled young dancers, ensuring the programme is inclusive and accessible.

At the centre of Making Moves are digital choreographic toolkits created by four selected choreographers. These toolkits include creative tasks, movement ideas, and resources that help teachers and young dancers create bold and original choreography in their own settings.

This year’s toolkits are created by James Cousins, Vicki Igbokwe-Ozoagu, Akram Khan, and Liv Lorent, each bringing a distinct artistic approach to movement-making.

The project begins with a two-day intensive at Sadler's Wells for group leaders, featuring professional development sessions led by the choreographers. Group leaders then return to their schools to use the toolkits with their young dancers, creating original works of their own.

These performances are filmed and sent back to the choreographers, who offer feedback and ideas for development. Groups then move on to regional platforms in Spring 2027, where they take part in workshops led by Sadler’s Wells guest artists and perform their developed work on stage. From there, eight groups will be selected to perform at Sadler’s Wells in July 2027, sharing their work with a public audience alongside the choreographers who created the toolkits.

Applications for Making Moves close on Sunday 31 May. Schools and youth groups can apply via the Sadler’s Wells website,.
