Directed by Ben Crompton, choreographed for stage by Liv Lorent, and written by Carol Ann Duffy, this dance theatre film takes audiences far from the fairytale they know. This is a story of envy, obsession, and the terrifying weight of irrelevance.
In this dark reimagining, the Queen is no caricature. She is a woman consumed by fear, haunted by the erosion of power, and desperate to be seen before she disappears. In her fight to hold on to youth, she sacrifices everything—beauty, dignity, and ultimately herself.
Through haunting narration, arresting choreography, and a cinematic lens, Snow White: The Sacrifice explores the human soul under pressure. Here, beauty is weaponized, power is distorted, and identity is measured in reflection. Snow White herself is youth personified—inevitable and threatening simply by existing.
The film features eleven extraordinary dancers, filmed by Ben Crompton, Alex Ayre, and Amelia Read, and edited by Alex Ayre, with an original score by Murray Gold. Costumes are by Nasir Mazhar and Libby El-Alfy, with design by Phil Eddolls and lighting by Malcolm Rippeth. Filmed at our home in Scotswood in the west end of Newcastle, the production blends stage and screen, mythology and modernity.
This is not a children’s story. It is a reckoning. A warning. A mirror.
