Project A

Wednesday February 21st 2024Share page

Earlier this month Creative Partner Debbi Purtill led an inspiring week-long movement intensive at Theatre Royal for a group of dedicated students as part of Project A. The program, offered by Newcastle Theatre Royal, focuses on actor training for individuals aged 18 to 25.

balletLORENT has been part of this initiative since 2016, contributing to the students' movement development and boosting their confidence as aspiring performers.

Liv Lorent said “Our relationship with Project A has continued to be creatively fruitful and we are continually impressed by the commitment and inventiveness of the actors. We witness their physical charisma and confidence grow through the residency and believe that this supports their individual development as performers for life.”

Using balletLORENT current repertoire from Snow White and The Becoming students delved into emotional themes and learned choreography. Debbi worked with the students to explore both the physical and emotional aspects of movement. The intensive week included sessions on partner work skills and various approaches to staging performances, culminating in the creation of their own version that they shared with a small audience.

Debbi Purtill said “I really enjoy facilitating this week, the students are generally new to movement and choreography so it’s always an exciting week of learning for everyone. As the week gains momentum, I witness them become braver, embracing each new challenge and as they grow in confidence they gain a better understanding of exploring their own physicality and movement language as a storytelling medium.”

Project A is a full time actor training company for 18 – 25 year olds. Suitable for those just starting their journey as an actor or those who are almost ready to enter the Industry run by Newcastle Theatre Royal.
