Ten pupils from Durrington Infant & Junior Federated Schools in Worthing will take to the stage with balletLORENT this spring, performing in our production of Snow White at the Connaught Theatre on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 May 2025. This marks balletLORENT’s first ever visit to the town.
The children, aged 6–8, were selected following a workshop led by company dancers Gavin Coward and John Kendall, attended by 120 pupils at the Salvington Road school. They will perform alongside the professional cast in two scenes.
Part of our nationwide tour of Snow White, each location features a newly selected young cast from the local community. In Worthing, the children will perform in both the family-friendly version of the show (ages 5+) and Snow White: The Sacrifice, created for adult audiences.
Featuring music by Doctor Who composer Murray Gold, both versions of Snow White feature a rich blend of storytelling, movement, and original design.
Chris Squire, Year 3 teacher and drama lead, commented:
“Our pupils are thrilled to be part of something so special. Working with balletLORENT has been truly inspiring for them – they’ve grown in confidence, enthusiasm, and creativity. We’ve already seen more pupils joining our dance and drama clubs as a result.”
Eight-year-old Madison, one of the selected pupils, shared:
“The workshops were really fun. We listened to music, moved around, and tried out dancing. I’m excited to be on stage with my friends and my whole family is coming to watch!”
James MacGillivray, balletLORENT’s Education & Projects Manager, said:
“For many children, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Performing in a professional production nurtures creativity and confidence, while enriching the schools’ arts provision in meaningful ways.”
Directed by balletLORENT’s founder Liv Lorent, the production includes a cast ranging from children to older professional performers – including company regular Caroline Reece, 61, and Geoff Hopson, 54, who came out of retirement to reprise his role as the King.
Snow White: The Sacrifice, which premiered in 2024, reimagines the tale for mature audiences, diving into the psyche of the Wicked Queen and her fear of aging.
