My performance preparation changes a lot depending on the piece. I always make sure my body is super warm but also feeling very grounded and controlled, trying not to have too much excitable energy! I find that nerves are good because the difference in feeling nervous before going on stage and then the feeling of liberation when I’m out there, is always really magical!

Meet Tassia Sissins
I’m a dancer and I love performing and telling stories with my body. I trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. For me, dancing is all about being yourself and enjoying what makes you unique. I’m always learning new things about my body, how to stay healthy, and how to get ready for the stage. I’m excited to share a bit about what I do and what helps me feel my best when I dance!
Dancing is about being yourself and enjoying what makes you special. I love learning, performing, and telling stories with my body.
How do you prepare for a performance?
What do you do to keep your body fit and healthy for dancing?
I’m always learning more about my body every day, which means this can often change. Eating well is always good, fuel is important to sustain any level of exercise, although treats are always needed when you’ve been working hard! Lots of sleep! I’ve been trying not to use my phone in the last hour before I go to sleep, and it makes me feel more refreshed in the morning!
Where did you train? What advice do you have for someone looking to do dance training?
I trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds and my biggest bit of advice would be to not worry about others and be yourself! Dance is very subjective and although sometimes things have to be marked and assessed in training, the dance world is almost always about performance, expression and individuality!
